Breaking The Standard

the most important two hours of your life

I can’t seem to understand how one test is supposed to determine our futures. And in my case, it certainly has. I took the SAT five years ago, and since then, it has essentially determined the school I now attend, and inadvertently, where I live, who I am friends with, and what I am pursuing.

Besides the fact that I am rather happy where I am in my life, from a big picture perspective, it is incredibly frustrating to know that I took a test created  not out of my best interest but rather the university’s. Shouldn’t there be a way around letting someone else determine how my intelligence is measured?

I clearly sound bitter, and lets face it. I kinda am. I’m pissed that two hours of my life have in effect determined my future. I want to determine my future and this option should be given to students today.

Katie, I agree with you in full. Looking back at the SAT it was a major part of my high school career and did determine to some extent my academic future. I think we all want to feel like we have control over our lives, and I don’t think that something as insignificant as one test should take that away from us.
