Throughout his immensly successful stint as President, Bush has made hickup after hickup, including the creation of the “No Child Left Behind Act”.
Here’s a breakdown: government issues nationwide standardized tests in reading and math that are regulated by each individual state. If schools do not meet these state standards, the NCLB will cut school funding.
This doesn’t seem logical. Not only the testing aspect of the legislation, but also the funding aspect. Teachers are then, in effect forced to teach to a test or else their schools will lose funding. Shouldn’t those schools be provided with more support? I’m confused. Maybe they could add a logic portion to these government mandated, state issued tests so that our kids can figure it out for us.
Clearly some changes need to be made in our schools.
